Here are some tips for the homeowner should they experience a water damage or fire damage loss:

IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE

Do:
  • Keep children, elderly adults, individuals with asthma and pets away from the affected area
  • Open windows for ventilation, if outside conditions are favorable
  • Tape a double layer of cheesecloth over air registers
  • Apply petroleum jelly or WD-40 to chrome, such as faucets, fixtures, frames etc.
  • Contact a certified Fire Restoration Contractor, such as Moore Restoration. Remember, handling a fire loss requires special training and knowledge. Many companies claim to handle fire restoration, so verify their qualifications. They should be IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration) certified and/or be members of ASCR (Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration).
Do Not:
  • Use radios, televisions, appliances, etc.
  • Attempt to wipe off walls or furniture with household cleaners
  • Use home carpet cleaner sprays

IN THE EVENT OF A WATER LOSS:

Do:
  • If possible, identify and eliminate water source, calling a plumber if necessary
  • Try to remove excess water through mopping, towels, etc.
  • Turn on Air Conditioner in summer or heat in winter, temperature should remain between 72 - 76 degrees
  • Remove furniture from carpeted areas and place plastic below legs
  • Remove items stacked on wood furniture and try to dry wood
  • Store art in a safe dry environment
  • Blot carpet with clean white towels
